Re: The great purification (Oharae) in summer

“Oharae” is an important event of Shintoism held on Jun. 30 (just a half day in a year) and Dec. 31 (the last day). Yesterday was the summer ritual in order to remove calamity and purify all the sins that people have committed in the former half of a year.
When I was biking along a country road near my hometown, I happened to find at a village shrine that caretakers were preparing the days preparation for the event held in the evening. I dismounted from my “granny’s bike” then in rapture, since I found a ring of kaya grass, i.e., plants of sedge family (which is called “Chinowa”) in the center of the precinct. After watching the explanatory board nearby, I, of course tried to pass through the hoop praying for avoiding a bunch of sins that I have done so far. (I’m a very bad boy, as you may have all know (^-^; )
