The school I graduated has welcomed its 150th anniversary this year. It was established as an agricultural school in the northland in 1876 (Meiji 9), the first vice-principal, William S. Clark was invited from Massachusetts Agriculture school.

I bought a book about the introduction of the school, which was just published from the Mainichi Newspapers. (Very understandable!) I was impressed a lot to know it afresh that young students in those days worked very hard to absorb all the advanced western knowledge and hands-on techniques, in order to catch up with the advanced nations. At the same time, I blushed and was very ashamed to remember that I was a TERRIBLY punk then. (;´Д｀)

During the 3 days (Sep.25, 26, 27), many events, such as the ceremony, research festivals, exhibitions of associated photos, commemorative concert, the Market of the north, the “Seminar” for the alumni association…I’m very looking forward to walking around all over the wide and beautiful campus, too.

最近、毎日新聞から出版されたばかりの、この学校の歴史を紹介する本を購入しました（とても分かりやすい内容です！）。当時、先進諸国に追いつこうと、若い学生たちが西洋の進んだ知識や実践的な技術を懸命に吸収しようとしていたことを改めて知り、深く感銘を受けました。それと同時に、当時の自分がとんでもない「グータラ」だったことを思い出し、恥ずかしさで顔から火が出る思いでした (;´Д｀)。

9月25日・26日・27日の3日間には、記念式典や研究発表会、写真展、記念コンサート、「北のマルシェ」、同窓会セミナーなど、数多くのイベントが開催されます。広大で美しいキャンパスを歩きまわることも、今からとても楽しみです。
