Since it became a fine day in the afternoon yesterday, I decided to go out for walking. At first, I thought I’d take a course a bit different from a usual one for about an hour or so, but I changed my mind when I arrived at the old Hokkoku-kaido road in our district. It might be a good chance to try finding historic remains along the strategically important route in Edo period, since I’ve usually biked around there and had no time to do so.
Almost all spots that I stopped to take a photo or read the origin were not quite new for me, but the exercise walk was worth doing, since I was able to acquire a nice episode, to solve a question that I’ve had so far, and of course to refresh myself, always being blown by the crisp breeze, as below:
1) The 1st Large Torii Gate for Kanzan-ji temple
We have the famous legend that Sugawara-no MIchizane (845-903) practiced the religion there in Heian period
2) “Kikusui-ame Honpo”, Kikusui candy shop
The shop is now just a small one along the roadside, but I can’t help but remember that travellers may have dropped by the shop for buying the famous candies for their souvenior, especially in Edo period (the 17-19 century).
3) The Resting Place of Rennyo (1415-1499), the Retorer of the Jodo Shinsyu sect
4) The Origin of a Big Torii at Imaichi Hamlet
I have had a simple question about the Torii gate so far, but a kind and honest old man told me that it was originally built as a worship space for another shrine by the edict of the 14th Emperor Chuai, …wow, that’s a mythical story (@_@)
5) The Buddhist Statue of Unknown Identity
The old man of 4) advised me that no old documents have left about the statue in the roadside shrine over there, but we’ve been told that it might have the value of an important cultural property. I didn’t know it at all!
6) The Mound of Fox
The mound was a temporarily base of Katsuie’s army in defense of Morimasa’s fight during the battle of Shizugatake, but it’s said that only Menju brothers armies left there to sacrifice for the lord.
I walked along the old road for more than 3 hours, and the podomere recorded more than 21,000 steps (15.2 km) when I came home.

タイトル：地元の”北國街道”沿いを歩く
昨日の午後、天気が良くなってきたので”ウォーキング”に出かけることにしました。最初はいつものコースとは少し違う道を1時間ほど歩こうと考えていましたが、”北國街道”に差し掛かったところで気が変わりました。普段は自転車で通り過ぎるだけで、じっくりと見て回る時間がなかったのですが、江戸時代の重要な交通路であったこの街道沿いの史跡を探索する良い機会だと思ったのです。
写真の撮影や説明書きを読むために立ち寄った場所のほとんどは、私にとってとくに目新しいものではありませんでした。それでも、興味深いエピソードを知ったり、長年の疑問が解けたり、何より爽やかな風に吹かれてリフレッシュできたりと、有意義な散策となりました。主な見どころは以下のとおりでした。
1) 菅山寺（かんざんじ）の”一の鳥居”
平安時代、菅原道真（845-903）がこの地で修行を行ったという有名な伝説が残っています。
2) 「菊水飴本舗」
現在は旧道沿いの小さなお店ですが、とくに江戸時代（17～19世紀）には、旅人たちが名物の飴を土産に買おうと立ち寄ったのではないかと思いを馳せました。
3) 浄土真宗中興の祖、蓮如（1415-1499）が休息した地
4) 今市集落にある大きな鳥居の由来
私はこれまでずっと気になっていた鳥居について、親切なご老人が教えてくれました。なんと、第14代仲哀天皇の勅命により、別の神社の礼拝所として建てられたものだのいわれがあるとか……いやはや、神話の世界のお話ですね (@_@)
5) 正体不明の仏像
4) のご老人が教えてくださいました。「あちらの道端の祠（ほこら）にある仏像については古い記録が残っていないけれども、人が言うには重要文化財級の価値があるかもしれないとのことだよ」 私は、そのことは全く知りませんでした！
6) 狐塚（きつねづか）
賤ヶ岳（しずがたけ）合戦の際、この塚は佐久間盛政（もりまさ）の戦いを援護するために勝家（かついえ）軍の臨時拠点となりましたが、結局、主君のために命を捧げるべく、毛受（めんじゅ）兄弟の軍勢だけがここに残ったと伝えられています。
旧街道を3時間以上歩き、帰宅して歩数計を確認するところ、21,000歩（15.2km）を超えていました。

私はちっとも疲れを感じませんでした……我ながら結構タフなオヤジです！ (*^^)v
