I have known that there is a small and old restaurant just in front of JR Kinomoto sta., but I’ve never entered into the inside yet. When I went to the town for my small business the other day, I somehow wanted to drop by the house at around noon. It was not crowded at all then, only an elderly man was eating Udon noodle and a side dish of Oden. I ordered a bowl of rice topped with chicken and eggs, and a pan-fried noodles (Yaki-soba) as well, since I was rather hungry then. A bit old “waitress” with honest air kindly advised me that I could make the bowl half since the 2 dishes might be too much. “Oh, thank you for your advice, please do it” I replied thinking that one of the reasons why the seemingly not necessarily fancy house has lasted so long must’ve been thanks to her presence.
The chicken meat of the bowl seemed to be a bit harder than usual, and I soon noticed that this meat must be “Hinedori” (a bit old chicken), which had a distinctive texture and oozed good soup.
The Yaki-soba was not a common Chinese-style but tasted long-forgotten Worcestershire sauce, which reminded me of my mom’s dish.
I hope I can try some ingredients of Oden such as radish, deep-fried tofu, ‘Goboten’ (deep-fried burdock root), drinking hot sake, at that inexpensive eating place. And, of course, the finish must be that advertising menu of Nabeyaki-Udon (noodles served hot in a pan) including that “Hinedori”. (^^♪

ＪＲ木之本駅のすぐ前に、小さくて古い食堂があることは以前から知っていましたが、まだ一度も入ったことがありませんでした。先日、ちょっとした用事で町へ出かけた時、ふと立ち寄ってみたくなり、お昼頃に行ってみました。店内は混んでおらず、うどんとおでんを食べている年配の方が一人いるだけでした。私はお腹が空いていたので、親子丼と焼きそばを注文しました。すると、少し年配のいかにも人の良さそうなおかみさんが、「２品だと多すぎるかもしれませんよ、丼を半人前にしましょうか？」と親切にアドバイスしてくれました。私は「ありがとうございます、そうします」と答えました。そして、一見すると決して豪華ではないこの食堂が、長年営業を続けてきている理由の一つは、きっと彼女の存在にあるのだろうなと思いました。
丼に入っていた鶏肉は通常のものより少し硬く感じたので、すぐに「あっ、これが”ひね鶏”だな」と気づきました。独特の食感で、にじみ出る出汁が美味しかったです。
焼きそばは一般的な中華風ではなく、懐かしいソース味のもので私は母の味を思い出しました。
私は、いつかあの食堂で、おでん（大根、揚げ出し豆腐、ごぼう天など）を肴に熱燗を飲んでみたいと思いました。そしてもちろん、締めは、あの「ひね鶏」が入った看板メニューの鍋焼きうどんに決めています。(^^♪
