Re: Strolling about the old area of our city [No. 2](わが街の旧市街を歩く[その2])

Since it was relatively warm for a day in early winter the day before yesterday, I strolled about the old area again where I used to commute when I was a high school pupil.
What I noticed afresh was that the city is filled with many marks that Hideyoshi (1537 – 1598) left here. After having beaten Nagamasa (浅井 長政) at the battle of Anegawa (姉川) in 1573, Hideyoshi (羽柴 秀吉) built his own castle here for the first time in his life and remained till 1582. During his administration in Nagahama, he was said to have contributed a lot for constructing a new castle town. Many Samurai warriors born in the city and the surrounding area in Ohmi province (currently Shiga pref.) may often come on stage in the NHK’s annual drama next year. I’m looking forward to watching it.
