Re: The En-nichi (A summer festival day or fair day) 縁日

【In English】

One of the most exciting days in our summer holidays was definitely the fair day in late Aug. Kids couldn’t wait for the pleasant day to walk along many street stalls, grasping sweaty small changes to buy some “gadgets” that seemed to be most attractive for naughty boys. The days have come this summer, too. Though the number of kids seems to have decreased quite a lot lately, their amused expression on their faces have never changed still now.

My feeling, however, may have changed. I visited the Jizo-in temple, in which the Buddhist deity for the fair day is enshrined, and I participated in the gathering where monks read Buddhist sutras. I also tried to see many treasures of the temple carefully, such as hanging scrolls depicting Kannon Bosatsu and old Buddhist statues. I may have become a “subdued and matured man”. ( ^)o(^ )

If I should have come here, being requested to bring them by my grandchildren, I must have spent many hours on the heat day, buying fried chicken, Takoyaki, cotton candy, and play goldfish scooping, smart ball, ring toss and so on together with them, just like grandmas I met today. ( ^)o(^ )
