Re: Lake Smelts Fishing at Lake Yogo

【In English】

I was born and grown at a small hamlet of Lake Yogo (余呉湖) in the far northern district of Shiga Pref. I don’t know it exactly when, but they started a kind of winter leisure of lake smelt fishing at the lake more than 40 years ago, and now the lake is well renowned as one of the most famous spots in the western area of Japan for the winter landscape.

Since three years ago, I’ve been assigned as one of the administration officers of the fishery cooperative (and an errand boy, as a matter of fact (^-^;). As far as I remember, the fishing exploits in the past 5 years were not necessarily good, but it seems to me the situation is pretty good so far this year…… I heard from the staff that the luckiest angler can get more than 1,000 fishes a day.

Lake smelts of Lake Yogo are relatively small, ……about 6 – 7 cm in length, quite smaller than the ones of Lake Biwa, but it tastes very good when deep fried.

Please come visit to the pier for fishing at the lake so I can guide you everything except how to fish.
