I’ve usually read a kind of practical books such as how to keep fit and how to enhance English proficiency. So, this was the first time for me in the latest few years to pick up the long novel (Roman). (I borrowed the book from the city library.) “Rirabie” in the title is the word meaning a sudden chilly day which they sometimes have in late May when lilac flowers will be in full bloom in the northern capital. The novel was a serial story on the Sunday edition of the Hokkaido Shimbun from July 5, 1970, to Jan. 31, 1971. The theme is a “forbidden desire” of a young researcher of a university and a beautiful widow who has a boy. (And the boy has significance for the man to approach the woman)
Since the time background was about 55 years ago from now, everything appeared in the story are quite laid-back and old-fashioned. For example, a public phone for communicating, a coffee shop for a date, the secret place in the backstreet for their craving assignation.
I enjoyed reading the novel as if I were watching a sensational but popular movie.
PS: I used to live the city in almost the same period as the story unfolded.

普段、私は健康維持に関する本や語学といった実用書をよく読んできているので、ここ数年では久しぶりに長編小説（ロマン）を手に取りました。（市立図書館でお借りいたしました。）タイトルの「リラ冷え」とは、北の都でリラ（英語名ライラック）の花が見ごろになる５月下旬に、ときとして訪れる急に肌寒くなる日のことを言います。この小説は、1970年7月5日から翌年1月31日まで、北海道新聞日曜版に連載されました。テーマは、大学の若い研究者と、男の子を持つ美しい未亡人の「禁断の愛」です。 （そして、この少年は男性が女性にアプローチする上で重要な意味を持っています）
時代背景は今から約55年前なので、物語に登場するものはすべて、とてもゆったりとした古風な雰囲気なものとなっています。例えば、連絡手段としての公衆電話、デートの場となる喫茶店、二人の欲望を満たすための裏通りのあいびき場所など。
私は、まるでセンセーショナルでありながらも話題性のある映画を見ているかのように、この小説を読み進めました。
追記：私はこの物語が展開しているほぼ同じ時期に、この街に住んでいました。
