I visited the Temple yesterday (Nov., 24 (Fri.)), for appreciating the color changing foliage. It was a bit of a pity for me that it was continuing cold rain during my walk around the precinct. The spot was not so crowded then. So, I was lucky conversely that I was able to enjoy enough to see still brilliant colors of maple leaves that were wet with dripping rain.
Keisoku-ji temple is said that it used to be a large temple on the top hill of Kodakami-yama mountain (己高山; 923 m high) up to the middle of Edo period since Gyogi (行基) built it in Nara period, enshrining the eleven-faced Kannon. This area, including other old mountain temples such as Hokke-ji (法華寺) and Shakudo-ji (石道寺) was said to be one of the largest cultural spheres of Buddhism. I think this long history must have formed such authentic beauties in a fall season, though no Buddhist priests have stationed any more now.

昨日（11月24日（金））、紅葉狩りを楽しむためにこのお寺を訪れました。 境内及びその界隈を歩いている間、冷たい雨が降り続いていたのが少し残念でした。 だけどその時には、この場所はそれほど混雑していませんでした。 したがいまして、しとしと雨に濡れながらも色鮮やかな紅葉を十分に楽しむことができたのは逆に幸運だったと思います。
鶏足寺は、奈良時代に行基が建立、十一面観音を本尊として以来江戸時代中期までは、己高山（標高923m）の山頂にある大寺院であったと伝えられています 。 法華寺や石道寺などの山岳寺院を含むこの地域は、最大の仏教文化圏の一つを形成していたとのことです。（注：古橋地区は古くから「まほろばの里」と言われていました）
今はもうこれらのお寺は無住となっておりますが、私は、この長い歴史が秋の季節が来る度にこのような心が洗われる美しさを見せてくれているに違いないと思っています。
