[10] Kyoto-1: One Day Walking Excursion around Arashiyama Park & RAKUHOKU (Northern Region of Kyoto)

嵐山公園和洛北(京都北部)一日远足

Please remember that guests may walk a lot in this excursion, especially at the wide Arashiyama Park and several old temples which are scattered about in the neighborhood zone. This is why guests can realize the treasure of the deep and sophisticated cultures that have been nurtured through that long history, only from learning it by walking on their own two feet.

You are too modest with yourself rating as an amateur!

Hello Yoshi san,
Thank you for forwarding the photos. I can access them and will download to my home computer later today.

I have been catching up with my work tasks and am writing this from my office, but they do look very nice.

We very much enjoyed our trip to Kanazawa and as you say, it was a good place to pair with Kyoto to see both

a former capital and a smaller town.

I think you are too modest with yourself rating as an amateur! We felt very well taken care of by you and the van driver.

And you arranged our very busy schedule and made sure that we were well taken care of. Only an expert could have

kept us on time AND given us such a complete look at Kyoto's sights. So, thank you so much for your time and for forwarding

the photos. We had an excellent time everywhere on our Japan vacation and will remember Kyoto especially well due to your good work.

Arigato gozaimasu Yoshi sensei!

Thank you,

Good day!Thank you very much for giving me such lavish words! I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed a lot in Kanazawa and now you went back to your sweet home without any problems.I was so lucky to be able to share the same time with the warm-hearted family from GA.Thank you again, and you have a good weekend, please!

Yoshi was a wonderful tour guide!

Thank you, Yoshi-san, for the lovely photographs and the care you took in arranging them.
I would be honored if you put any photographs you wish on your website.
Regarding my "nicest comment”. There are many nice observations I could make regarding the tour,
but let’s see if the following review meets your needs:
“Knowledgeable, gracious and patient, Yoshi was a wonderful tour guide, who gave me a deeper understanding
of Japanese Culture and History, especially how Kyoto played an important role in creating the modern Japan.

What to Expect

  • Let’s walk around some of the best spots in the Northern region of the Old Capital, after visiting the representative must-see spot, Arashiyama park.
  • Arashiyama (Storm Mountain in English) originates from resort villa area of noblemen in Heian-kyo era (794 – 1192). Since the park has such a long history, there are so many places that attract us,…the first one is, of course, that old bridge of “Moon Crossing” over the Katsura river, which was named from the episode that the 90th Emperor Kameyama had composed a poem “The full moon is just like crossing the river”. You mustn’t miss the main hall and the wide “Sogen-chi” garden of Tenryu-ji Zen temple, one of the world heritages. You must feel a kind of authentic landscape of Japan when you pass through the bamboo forest toward Sagano area. You can appreciate the fantastic vista at the park through all seasons, but the best of the best must be cherry blossom season from late in Mar. to early in Apr. Autumnal leaves there, beginning from the middle of Nov. are also breathtakingly beautiful, not only the view of the mountains seen across the river but also at the old temples such as Gio-ji, Nison-in and Jyojyakko-ji temples. It must really be the art of Nature!
  • Another main attraction of the excursion is to visit and appreciate old and prestigious temples, appurtenant structures such as five-storied stupa and Japanese gardens. From Arashiyama park, let’s use a kind of retro street car, endearingly called “Randen”, which conveniently covers the following historic and world-wide famous old temples in Rakuhoku area. These are moss-covered temple of Keisyun-in, a sub-temple of the large headquarters temple of Myoshin-ji, a dry garden at Ryo-an-ji temple, and Kinkaku-ji temple (AKA, Golden Pavilion), which is also registered as the World Heritage. Please select one destination among (a)Myoshin-ji, (b)Ryo-an-ji temple or (c)Kinkaku-ji temple (AKA, Golden Pavilion).
  • If you wish, we can also walk along the peaceful and calm way of Kinukake-road when we visit these old temples.
  • On the way back to downtown of Kyoto, we will visit one of the representative shrines in the old capital, Kitano-tenmangu shrine, which enshrines Sugawara-no-Michizane (845 – 903), a renowned scholar, poet, and politician of the Heian Period of Japan.
  • Please remember that the guests attending this excursion may walk a lot, especially at the wide Arashiyama Park and several old temples which are scattered about in the neighborhood zone.
